DoD: George “Babs” Miller

I don’t know who we were playing but they’re one of the better teams in the league and play an interesting form of long ball hockey that reminds me of my early days playing on grass. The weather was glorious and we started the game continuing in similar form to that we’ve showed so far this season, pressing high and creating some good scoring chances.

Unfortunately we were shocked by conceding a goal against the run of play at the midpoint of the first half. It would be cruel to blame Buke for the goal, considering there was only one opposition player in the D and he was caught off of his line, so I wont do so. It was enjoyable to see that he lost the 200 smug points he’d amassed from the clean sheets he maintained in the first two matches, unlucky.

We subsequently started to play our own brand of long ball hockey, which we’re really sh!t at, for the rest of the half. Another good halftime teamtalk from Towner resulted in a well judged tactical switch to a half court press and as our ball retention improved so did the standard of our hockey. After 10 minutes (or so) Toddy capped an impressive debut with some tidy skills and a well-struck finish, I think he might be able to handle this level of hockey, provided he shows good dedication in the bar and relinquishes some of his energy on the pitch. I was doing my best to impress my insta-family and managed to score after some neat team interplay between the midfield, only to find that they’d gone to the bathroom at that time, probably for a poo, if I was guessing.

Tyler scored from inches on the back post, then Groomer converted a penalty stroke with a sexy little disco shuffle to confuse the keeper. As for individuals, Groomer Senior was impressive on the left wing, MyClub was excellent in the midfield and NSG had another strong game at the back, all the more impressive after his inability to stop the ball during the warm-up.  Another good team performance and an enjoyable win.

Oh, I got DoD for having a mild eggy-stress about taking a free hit during the first half. Pretty lame guys, someone needs to be more of a d!ck next week, I for one will be trying.
